CORONAVIRUS | The Pakatan Harapan secretariat council has urged International Trade and Industry (Miti) minister Azmin Ali to take full responsibility for the crashing of the ministry's website which rendered it inaccessible.
Miti yesterday claimed that casual visitors had flooded the website causing it to crash.
The surge in the number of visitors happened after Miti opened applications for movement control order (MCO) exemptions for certain non-essential services.
"We urge the Miti minister Azmin Ali (photo, above) to take full responsibility for the failure and explain how he can solve the problem immediately," the secretariat council said in a statement.
The statement is jointly signed by Fahmi Fadzil of PKR, Ong Kian Ming (DAP), and Hatta Ramli (Amanah).
The secretariat council said that the problem will not stop at the issue of accessing the website, but it will extend to the duration that the ministry takes to process thousands of applications due to the unclear guidelines.
"This will cause a burden to small and medium enterprises in these trying times," the statement reads.
The problem, the secretariat council said, is that certain definitions of sectors allowed to operate are too general.
"The confusion over vague terms will add up to the number of visitors accessing the website and the number of applications.
"The confusion on whether law firms are allowed to operate is one example."
The secretariat council said that the number of 176,000 visitors as claimed by Miti were probably not unique visitors but visitors who attempted to access the website several times.
The secretariat council added that it had warned the relevant parties about the potential problem regarding access to the website since last week. - Mkini
