Batu MP to meet with Welfare Dept on aid distribution

Malaysiakini

CORONAVIRUS | Batu MP P Prabakaran has been invited to a meeting by the Social Welfare Department to discuss the distribution of aid to residents at Taman Sri Murni.
This came after the lawmaker had last night alleged some residents there had yet to receive food aid.
“I just received an invitation letter from the Social Welfare Department to attend a discussion on the distribution of aid to residents of Taman Sri Murni.
“I would like to thank the Welfare Department for inviting me, as the elected representative of the area, to discuss issues on aid, even though it is the third day (of the lockdown).
“I will raise issues such as inadequate food for the residents, critical illnesses which require immediate treatment and Welfare Department food aid which has yet to reach Phase One and Two,” Prabakaran (above) said in a posting on Facebook today.
Taman Sri Murni is one of several residential areas surrounding the Kuala Lumpur wholesale market in Selayang placed under an enhanced movement control order (MCO).
Under the 14-day lockdown beginning Monday, residents are not permitted to leave their homes, even to purchase food.
Malaysiakini understands the meeting is taking place this afternoon.
Prabakaran further called on residents there to adhere to the rules set by authorities.
Earlier today, Kuala Lumpur Mayor Nor Hisham Dahlan assured that the government will provide food for the 16,000 affected residents surrounding the market.
Other than Prabarakan, Kuala Lumpur Vegetable Wholesalers' Association has also claimed that those living under lockdown there have yet to receive food aid promised by authorities. - Mkini
