Quarantined Sendayan tahfiz teacher misses students

Malaysiakini

CORONAVIRUS | Muhammad Nur, a tahfiz teacher in Sendayan, Negeri Sembilan, is under self-quarantine while 15 of his students have tested positive for Covid-19.
Speaking to Malaysiakini, Muhammad, who is of Rohingya descent, said he learned about the matter from his superior.
"We have120 students. But once the Covid-19 (pandemic) started and the government closed the school (under the movement control order on March 18), all the students returned to their homes.
"I only knew that the students tested positive when our 'big ustaz' (supervisor) told me about it.
"I miss my students and teachers," added the 34-year-old teacher, who is in quarantine with another teacher from Bangladesh at the tahfiz centre.
The centre is run by the Albab Family Trading (AFT) group in Bandar Sri Sendayan.
Last week, the quiet town of Sendayan came under the spotlight after a large number of Covid-19 positive cases were detected in the area.
The new cluster was revealed when an AFT leader, who died at the Tuanku Ja'afar Hospital in Seremban on April 11, was tested positive.
This prompted health authorities to screen all members of the close-knitted community.
To date, the Health Ministry has found a total of 77 cases linked to the cluster, including the person who died.
According to Muhammad, who fled to Malaysia from Myanmar last year, it was the late AFT leader who offered him to be a teacher at the tahfiz school some four months ago.
Prior to this, he had worked at various places including in Kelantan and Penang.
