Noh to focus on Muafakat Nasional, recapturing Selangor

Newly reinstalled Selangor Umno chief Noh Omar will focus on strengthening the Muafakat Nasional alliance with PAS in the state.

He said this is to ensure that Umno can win back Selangor in the next general election after losing it 12 years ago in 2008.

"I have a very simple approach. Whatever it is, our goal is, Umno must win. We want to win back Selangor in the general election. That is my goal," he said.

Noh had resigned as Selangor Umno chief in June 2018 following Selangor Umno and BN's third consecutive defeat in the polls.

He had held the post since 2013 and was reappointed to the post yesterday, replacing Mat Nadzari Ahmad who had "returned" his post to party president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

Noh said his reappointment was a "compromise" and that there was no tussle as it was done in the party's interests.

This is after Umno once again became part of the federal government under the Perikatan Nasional coalition.

With this, there is a spot for Umno to fill in Selangor's Federal Development Council, which is represented by either MPs or lawmakers.

Noh said that Nadzari could not fill this position as he was not an elected representative.

"(The division leaders) said let Umno's representative in the council also represent the state Umno chapter," he said.

He said his re-appointment was a unanimous decision by division leaders, which he was happy to accept.

Meanwhile, Noh stressed that he would not sell the Selangor Umno building in Shah Alam.

Plants to sell the state party headquarters had become a major point of contention for division leaders who were against Nadzari's leadership. - Mkini
