Bukit Aman: Over 300,000 people registered so far with Gerak Malaysia app

KUALA LUMPUR: More than 300,000 people have registered with the Gerak Malaysia app in the last 12 hours.
Bukit Aman CID director Comm Datuk Huzir Mohamed (pic) said of the total registered, 100,000 had submitted applications for interstate travel as they have been stuck at their hometowns since the movement control order (MCO) began.
"The police force predicts the numbers will increase significantly by May 1.
"Every application will be vetted to ensure only those who want to travel across state borders for the allowed reasons are permitted," he said in a statement on Sunday (April 26).
He said this was to facilitate planning these journeys in a smooth and uncomplicated manner.
"During this time period, the police will monitor and evaluate application trends through the app.
"We will send our results to the government so that the travel dates announced on Saturday (April 25) would be re-examined and adjusted based on the number of applications received," he said.
Comm Huzir urged the public again to cooperate and only apply for interstate travel for valid reasons.
"Cooperation from all parties is important to ensure the app is benefited by those who really need to travel across state borders.
"We will give updates on the movement schedule later," he said. - Star
