Getting favourite food not an acceptable excuse to leave home - IGP

Malaysiakini

Wanting a buy your favourite food is not a valid excuse to flout the Movement Control Order (MCO), said inspector-general of police Abdul Hamid Bador.
"Excuses such as wanting to purchase your favourite food is unacceptable and stern action will be taken," he told journalists in Kuala Lumpur today.
Under a more stringent MCO that came into effect on April 1, people are not allowed to travel beyond a 10km radius from their home.
Hamid Bador urged the public to remain at home and comply with the MCO to help contain the spread of Covid-19.
Bear in mind that anyone could be infected by the Covid-19 virus regardless of their skin colour, race, religion or status, he told Bernama when met at Bukit Aman.
“Now is the time for all the people to sacrifice by refraining from leaving their home as they could be at risk of catching the virus... just be patient... once the situation improves, we might see less stringent restrictions,” he said.
On the possibility of an MCO extension, Abdul Hamid said it would all depend on public compliance.
“The current data shows positive signs that we can contain the spread of the infection,” he said.
Abdul Hamid also said that the police were facing a more challenge task as it is faced with an invisible threat.
“We are not fighting with a visible enemy... we don't know because (the virus) is everywhere and very dangerous,” he said.
He also expressed his appreciation to healthcare staff for their dedication and contribution in the fight against Covid-19.
