'Probe if local councillor abused power to open badminton hall during MCO'

Malaysiakini

CORONAVIRUS | Selangor MCA wants a local councillor to be investigated if he had abused his power to have a badminton hall opened during the movement control order (MCO).
This is after the local councillor was yesterday arrested with three other people for playing badminton at the council-owned hall in Shah Alam during the partial lockdown.
"The police must thoroughly probe a Pakatan Harapan Shah Alam city councillor who was arrested for defying the MCO when he allegedly abused his authority by ordering a multipurpose hall in Shah Alam to be opened for him and his friends to play badminton," Selangor MCA chief Ng Chok Sin (above).
He said apart from legal action, the local councillor must also face disciplinary action by his party and the Shah Alam City Council.
He also called on the Selangor government to revoke his appointment as a local councillor.
Yesterday, Selangor police spokesperson on Covid-19, Ismail Muslim, confirmed the arrest.
The Shah Alam City Council also confirmed the incident, calling it a "trespass".
The local council has also demanded an explanation from the councillor. - Mkini
