Hadi’s appointment as special envoy not to appease party members, says PAS

PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang was named as a special envoy to the Middle East this week.
KUALA LUMPUR: PAS has denied claims that the appointment of its president, Abdul Hadi Awang, as the prime minister’s special envoy to the Middle East, at ministerial level, is to appease party members.
PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan said the party, especially Hadi, had never asked for a post or position in the government.
“Instead, we are prepared to serve wherever to strengthen and ensure stability of the government led by the prime minister,” he said in a statement today.
Takiyuddin, who is a minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, said Hadi’s appointment would allow him to assist the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government to further strengthen relations between Malaysia and countries in the Middle East.
He said Hadi would also be working closely with Foreign Minister Hishammuddin Hussein and Wisma Putra.
Takiyuddin also said PAS would set up a committee to monitor and advise its members in the government so that they carry out their responsibilities honestly.
“Since the PAS president is also in the government, members of the committee may comprise members of the Syura council,” he said. - FMT
