CORONAVIRUS | The Health Ministry has provided the number of active Covid-19 cases in each district in Malaysia which revealed that there are 16 red zones remaining when categorised by active cases.
Previously, the ministry had only identified red zones by the number of cumulative confirmed positive cases of Covid-19.
However, the cumulative numbers may not accurately reflect the Covid-19 situation due to recoveries or deaths.
Any district with more than 40 confirmed Covid-19 cases are considered red zones. Districts with 20 to 40 cases are labelled as orange zones while those under 20 cases are listed as yellow zones.
Green zones are used for districts free of Covid-19.
It was reported yesterday that Kulai had become the 29th Covid-19 red zone after recording 41 cumulative infections.
In today’s updated chart from the ministry, it is revealed that Kulai now has 45 cumulative Covid-19 cases but only 23 active cases.
Based on the data of active cases released today, the 16 red zones are Petaling, Hulu Langat, Gombak, Klang, Cheras, Kepong, Lembah Pantai, Titiwangsa, Jasin, Seremban, Kluang, Johor Bahru, Kuantan, Kuching, Kota Samarahan and Tawau.
Previously, the Health Ministry had said it is considering redefining the zones by relying on active cases figure or data of patients who have yet to recover and is able to infect others.
Health Ministry director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah has stressed multiple times during the ministry’s daily Covid-19 press conferences that the infectivity rate of the virus depends on the number of active cases.
As of yesterday at 12pm, there were a total of 5,305 cumulative cases and 2,115 active cases of Covid-19 in Malaysia.
