Kadir questions appointment of Abdul Wahid as Bursa chair

Malaysiakini

Veteran newsman A Kadir Jasin has questioned the appointment of former minister in the Prime Minister's Department Abdul Wahid Omar as the new Bursa Malaysia chairperson.
In a blog posting, he said Wahid was on the Retirement Fund Incorporated (KWAP) investment panel when it approved RM4 billion in loans to SRC International in 2011 and 2012.
"Even though I know Abdul Wahid quite well and laud his idealism before getting involved in politics, and he remained civil with me, I, nonetheless, think his appointment as Bursa chairperson must be reviewed," Kadir (photo) said.
Last May, a KWAP executive told the court that Wahid was one of the KWAP investment panel members who gave the green light to the first RM2 billion loan to SRC International in 2011.
Meanwhile, Kadir also cast aspersions on Wahid's ties with Finance Minister Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz.
"Zafrul was reported as citing governance issues as the reason to terminate the services of Shireen Ann Zaharah Muhiudeen as Bursa chairperson.
"Many know that Wahid and Zafrul shared a past as top executives in Maybank," he said.
"The question is whether the Perikatan Nasional government is unaware of all this, or do they know but don't care because they have the power to appoint and dismiss," he added.
Previously, the appointment of Mohammed Azlan Hashim to the Khazanah Nasional Berhad Board also raised eyebrows.
Azlan was also on the KWAP investment panel which approved the SRC International loan.
Meanwhile, Bakke Mohd Salleh, who is known to be among the few people within 1MDB who spoke up before it devolved into a global scandal, was also asked to resign as the Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB) chairperson. - Mkini
