Kelantan cops foil man's first drug delivery, seize RM1.4m worth of 'pil kuda'

Malaysiakini

A 27-year-old man's first attempt at drug delivery was foiled by Kelantan police in an operation held amid the ongoing movement control order (MCO) period.
Kelantan police chief Hasanuddin Hassan said personnel and officers from batallion 9 of the general operations force had seized RM1.4 million worth of pil kuda (amphetamine pills) from the man's car at around 10.30am yesterday.
He said the man was stopped and detained near Kampung Kubang Pak Ali, Jalan Kesban, Pasir Mas, after he was seen to be driving a Proton Persona in a suspicious manner.
"Checks in the boot found two large boxes and two smaller boxes containing 70 transparent plastic packages.
"We found the plastic packages to contain reddish and greenish pills believed to be yaba (amphetamines)," Hasanuddin told a press conference at the Pasir Mas district police station.
Commenting further, Hasanuddin said investigations also found that the man had no previous criminal record and is currently living in Rantau Panjang.
"Based on the suspect's statement, the man was picking up a supply of drugs from Tumpat for delivery in Rantau Panjang.
"The suspect said he is a drug courier and it was his first time doing a delivery," said Hasanuddin.
Hasanuddin said the man is currently remanded for seven days until April 26 and investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
"We also seized RM1,805 in cash, 8050 Thai Baht, and a Tissot watch valued at RM500.
"Total value of all items seized is RM1,431,935," he said, adding that the suspect had verbally admitted to holding dual Thailand and Malaysia citizenship, which is also an offence under the country's Immigration laws.
Last Friday, Bukit Aman Narcotics Crime Investigations Department director Ramli Din reportedly said police have seized RM75 million worth of drugs throughout the movement control order period.
He also said drug dealing has been on the rise since suffering a dip in the first phase of the MCO, from March 18 to 31. - Mkini
