Kelantan ruler to return royal emoluments for six months

Malaysiakini

CORONAVIRUS | Kelantan ruler Sultan Muhammad V will be returning his royal emoluments for six months beginning this month as the nation continues to grapple with the Covid-19 crisis.
According to Sinar Harian, Kelantan Royal Household Comptroller Nik Mohd Shafriman Nik Hassan said the move was in line with that taken by Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Abdullah Ahmad Shah and Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah to ease the government’s burden during this pandemic.
"His majesty hopes the Kelantan secretariat will suitably arrange so that the returned royal emoluments will help ease the burden of the people affected by the movement control order (MCO) that has been extended.
“Sultan Muhammad V also hopes the people would be patient and view the MCO in the positive context by spending more quality time with family, self-reflecting and in prayer, ” Nik Mohd reportedly said in a statement.
The state ruler also called on the people to help one another during this time.
The Perikatan Nasional imposed the MCO from March 18 to March 31 to slow the spread of the coronavirus. The MCO was later extended to April 14. - Mkini
