The law firm for two Mongolian women who were allegedly raped by a police inspector expressed hope that the attorney-general will level rape charges against the law enforcer.
Mathew Thomas Philip (above), the managing partner of law firm Thomas Philip, told this to Malaysiakini following the police inspector being charged at the Klang Sessions Court earlier today with human trafficking.
This morning, accused Hazrul Hizham Ghazali pleaded not guilty to charges of trafficking the two Mongolian women and abusing his power to exploit the duo for sex at a hotel at Petaling Jaya between April 10 and 11.
The law firm was hired by the Mongolian consulate to represent the two Mongolian women.
“We wholeheartedly support the AG’s (attorney-general's) decision to ensure the former inspector faces the full weight of potential charges for the heinous crimes he committed against my clients.
“There will be a further mention on the civil suit scheduled for May 27 and by then we hope that the AG's chambers will have levelled criminal charges for rape against the former inspector,” Philip said.
The lawyer was referring to the Kuala Lumpur High Court case management date for the two Mongolian women’s lawsuit against the police officer and a boutique hotel in Petaling Jaya in relation to the alleged rape.
