CORONAVIRUS | Gerakan has launched a free business advisory platform to assist entrepreneurs to restrategise and transform their business plan to overcome the economic impact caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
"The party's SME Bureau has set up this platform to prepare businesses whether large or small to get together, reinvent, reset and transform within the confinement of the movement control order (MCO) or post-MCO," said Gerakan deputy secretary-general, Gary Lee, during an online press conference today.
The platform, dubbed #BforB (Business for Business), is also meant to provide a collaborative environment for local businesses to support each other.
Lee, who is also the #BforB project head, said the Covid-19 pandemic has paralysed the global economy and forced many countries to lockdown since February.
Citing the experience of China, he estimated that Malaysian businesses would suffer despite stimulus packages to contain an economic fallout.
He lamented that consumer spending power would reduce drastically as Malaysians are bracing for job losses and pay cuts.
He, however, said the business community can still seize opportunities during the economic turmoil and restrategise their businesses.
Lee expected a huge demand for personal protective products, such as face masks, hand sanitisers and other hygiene-related products.
"We will be managing this through our network of members who are mostly professionals or business owners in various fields," he said.
Citing "Makcik Kiah", whom Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin described how his RM250 billion stimulus package could help, Lee said the #BforB platform could provide advice for Makcik Kiah to venture into online food catering and delivery.
Asked if Gerakan would engage with Muhyiddin and relevant ministries on #BforB, Lee said: "The only person who can answer this is party president (Dominic Lau)."
Gerakan was a former constituent of the BN coalition. -Mkini
