Lembah Pantai MP Fahmi Fadzil has urged the Federal Territories Ministry to hand out a one-off RM20,000 financial aid to organisers of Ramadan bazaars to ease their cash flow.
In a statement, Fahmi said organisers have spent a substantial amount of money to prepare for the bazaars.
"Since the announcement to cancel (Ramadan bazaars) was quite late, only a week before the start of Ramadan, I suggest that the Federal Territories Ministry give a one-off RM20,000 aid to each organiser in the Federal Territories.
"This will help with their cash flow and also as a form of appreciation for their hard work.
"I estimate a total cost of RM1.2 million is needed," he said.
Yesterday, Federal Territories Minister Annuar Musa had announced that there will be no Ramadan bazaars in the Federal Territories, in any form, this year.
He said the decision was made after discussing with the National Security Council.
Meanwhile, Fahmi also urged the bazaar organisers to expedite returning the booking fee of between RM350 to RM500 to traders.
"Most of them (traders) disagreed that the money is kept for next year's Ramadan bazaars.
"I hope the organisers expedite the refund as many of them need the money to prepare for Ramadan," he said.
On the licence fee, Fahmi said he learned that the ministry had instructed the Kuala Lumpur City Hall to refund the RM120 licence fee to traders of Ramadan bazaars. - Mkini
