I would like to add my support to the letter published on April 25 concerning the “exile” of expatriates on long-term visas who have been denied their return to Malaysia during the current movement control order (MCO).
While l have no doubt that certain steps are necessary to ensure Malaysia is successful in combating Covid-19, l, like many others, think it is unfair and unlike the Malaysian hospitality l have enjoyed for many years to deny access to long-term residents who have, by invitation, made Malaysia their home.
I am also a MM2H visa holder who is affected, having made a “quick” trip to Indonesia to see friends and finding myself living here day by day far from my home, with few clothes and other necessities, and limited access to my bank account.
Fortunately, l have no family in Malaysia but I feel sorry for those “exiles” who are denied access to their spouses and children.
I hope and trust the Malaysian government will understand our plight and amend the MCO regulations to allow long-term visa holders to return and live in Malaysia as they mostly have done for several years.
