Malaysiakini

CORONAVIRUS | A 22-year-old Malaysian woman, who participated in an international tabligh gathering in Delhi, India has tested positive for Covid-19, according to the Times of India.
The report said the woman is among 20 foreigners who tested positive over the past 10 days. She is currently undergoing treatment in Jiharkand's Rajendra Institute of Medical Science and is the state's first Covid-19 case.
The woman had travelled by train to Jiharkand's capital Ranchi from Delhi on March 17.
"… A curfew has been imposed in the densely populated Hindpiri area in Ranchi where the woman stayed at a private residence near a mosque for several days. Over 10,000 residents in the area are being screened," stated the report.
According to the local police, the group which the woman was part of did not report its arrival in the city to the administration as required.
Indian authorities have placed more than 250 foreign nationals, who attended the congregation, under quarantine or in isolation wards.
In Tamil Nadu, Times of India said more than 60 foreigners from Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia and Kyrgystan have been put under surveillance after attending the Delhi meeting.
"At least six of them, including four Indonesians, have tested positive. All of them are in the isolation ward in the Salem government hospital.
"At least 156 persons who came in contact with the pilgrims have been house quarantined. In all, 74 missionaries who attended the Delhi congregations arrived in the state since December. However, at least 12 of them flew back before the lockdown was declared," it added.
The report said foreigners have also been placed on the Covid-19 watch in Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana, Maharashtra, Bengal and Haryana.
In Madhya Pradesh, the state government identified at least 20 people from Malaysia and Indonesia who attended the gathering in Delhi.
"The foreigners came to India in the second week of March, before Covid-19 travel restrictions were clamped. Officials have found that they stayed in two mosques in Bagh Farhat Afza area of Bhopal," said Times of India.
Apart from Malaysians, Indonesians and Bangladeshis, other nationalities who attended the gathering, which was held during different periods last month, were from Tanzania, Brunei, Iran, Ghana, Mauritius, Ivory Coast, Thailand, Kyrgyzstan, South Africa, Gambia, USA, UK, France, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, Nepal and Kenya.
Previously, Times of India reported that authorities have identified that at least 20 Malaysians attended the gathering.
Yesterday, Health Ministry director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said his staff is working with the police to trace the 87 Malaysians who were in Indonesia to attend the aborted tabligh gathering in Sulawesi.
tabligh gathering in Kuala Lumpur in February became the largest Covid-19 cluster in Malaysia.
As of noon yesterday, the country, which has been placed under a movement control order (MCO) until April 14, recorded a total of 2,766 Covid-19 cases and 43 deaths.
