Selangor develops analytical platform to better manage Covid-19 response - Dzulkefly

Malaysiakini

CORONAVIRUS | Selangor has developed an analytical platform to better manage its response while supporting national efforts in tackling the Covid-19 spread.
Selangor task force for Covid-19 (STFC) chairperson Dzulkefly Ahmad (above) said the platform would allow the task force to keep up to date with the latest science on the virus.
“As a guide for Selangor menteri besar (Amirudin Shari) to lead the state machinery in implementing localised intervention measures, the STFC is determined to present recommendations and measures in line with scientific proof and up-to-date data.
“To achieve this objective, an analytical platform with big data analytics and machine learning has been developed so STFC recommendations can be referred to the latest scientific research that changes fast in the course of this epidemic.
“This will also enable STFC members to focus not only on the Covid-19 caseload but also take into account population load, marginalised population distribution such as single mothers, senior citizens, low-income citizens and other socioeconomic factors in planning priorities and action plans,” Dzulkefly, who is also the former federal health minister, said.
In a statement today, the Amanah Kuala Selangor lawmaker emphasised that the state task force was aware of the federal government’s jurisdiction over national health efforts and the state government’s role to complement the Health Ministry as the country’s “custodian of health”.
The task force, he said, was committed to helping the Selangor government’s ability to advise the state Health Department on means to contain the spread of the Sars-CoV-2 virus that’s causing the Covid-19 infection.
As such, Dzulkefly once more called on the federal government to share pertinent anonymised data with the former so the analytics being developed can be completed.
“The data analytics will help drive disease control actions, targetted community screenings at a more micro level as well as mobilise aid and welfare channels including maintaining the mental health of the people of Selangor.”
Meanwhile, on the number of coronavirus cases in Selangor, Dzulkefly noted a two-day decrease in the number of new cases recorded - from 60 new cases on March 30 to 32 on March 31 and 22 yesterday.
However, the state recorded 74 new cases today.
Selangor has the highest number of recorded Covid-19 cases in the country with 800 cases as of 5.14pm today. Hulu Langat, Klang, Petaling and Gombak have been designated red zones.
The Health Ministry has warned that several areas in the state could be placed under lockdown as part of an enhanced movement control order (Emco) if they continue to see a rise in the number of cases.
“STFC views the situation in Selangor very seriously as it is the highest in the cart for the number of positive Covid-19 cases. The statistics are in line with the density factor of Selangor which represents 20 percent of the national population.
To date, the country has recorded a total of 3,116 Covid-19 cases with 208 new infections recorded as of noon today.
Of the total number, 50 patients have died while 767 have fully recovered. - Mkini
