'Spider-man' entangled in police's MCO web

Malaysiakini

CORONAVIRUS | Traffic near the Gombak toll slowed down when motorists attempted to catch a glimpse of spider-man.
The Marvel superhero was spotted at a roadblock, which was set-up to ensure that the public adhere to the movement control order (MCO) to curb the spread of the Covid-19 virus.
Malaysiakini reader, who wished to remain anonymous like the masked crusader, uploaded a photograph of the man dressed in the spider-man costume talking to a police officer while an army personnel brandishing an assault rifle stood watch on her Facebook page.
“Spider-man trying to explain to our armed forces and police why he should be allowed to proceed as he is on an essential service to save lives,” she wrote.
Speaking to Malaysiakini later, she said the incident happened on Tuesday.
“He (spider-man) had a van parked nearby and he walked over to the two uniformed guys... I didn't have the opportunity to take a photograph from the front to show his spidey mask,” she added.
Asked how the security personnel reacted to his presence, she replied: “Just in the picture, cool and professional.”
The same image was also posted on the police's Facebook page with the heading “Pic of the day: Superhero also bound by MCO.”
“Although you consider yourself a superhero, you still need to obey the government's order. Take this opportunity to rest at home with your loved ones,” read the caption.
The posting drew a deluge of responses, with some casting aspersion on the man's mental state.
One user suggested that he be sent to the frontline to deal with Covid-19 patients while another noted that he was covered from head to toe, which protected him from the virus.

According to Reuters, spider-man has also made an appearance in the northern English town of Stockport, where he is keeping children entertained amid the coronavirus pandemic.
“Jason Baird, a local 34-year-old martial arts teacher, has taken to dressing up as the Marvel superhero for his daily jog, replete with acrobatic jumps and somersaults,” it said.
On the celluloid front, media reports stated that the filming for Spider-man 3, which was to commence in July, has been postponed due to Covid-19.
Spider-man 3 is a follow up to the last movie Far From Home and sees Tom Holland return as the superhero.
Earlier, Defence Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob revealed that 4,000 people were arrested for violating the MCO and 1,000 have been charged in court.
The government imposed the MCO on March 18 in a bid to flatten the infection curve. The order was scheduled to expire on March 31 but was extended to April 14.
As of yesterday, Malaysia recorded a total of 2,908 Covid-19 cases and 45 deaths. This is the highest number of infections in Southeast Asia. - Mkini
