CORONAVIRUS | Just under 10 percent of all Covid-19 infections in the country involve foreigners, said Health Ministry director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
He said to date, 416 of recorded Covid-19 cases involve foreign patients.
This is out of the 4,228 Covid-19 cases recorded as of noon today.
He said the largest group of citizens infected with Covid-19 are from Indonesia (51 cases) followed by India (37), Myanmar (31), Pakistan (29) and the Philippines (27).
The other citizens are from China (25), Bangladesh (12), Cambodia (8), Thailand (7), Brunei (6), Fiji (4), the US (4), Jordan (3), Australia (2), Japan (2), Nigeria (2), Singapore (2), the UK (2), Egypt (1), Italy (1), Maldives (1), Nepal (1), Somalia (1) and Tunisia (1).
Five more were labelled as "Rohingya" without stating citizenship. The citizenship status of another 151 individuals was also not stated in the Health Ministry data and was labelled as "not citizen".
To date, two out of the 67 deaths were foreigners. One was a Pakistan citizen while another was an Indonesian citizen.
Noor Hisham said the Health Ministry is also working closely with the United Nations High Commission for Refugees to combat Covid-19.
"This is to ensure refugees and asylum seekers are also covered in the government's (Covid-19) prevention and control activities," he told a press conference in Putrajaya today.
He said the Health Ministry is also receiving a lot of help from NGOs and volunteers, with involvement from the district health department, in contact tracing activities in the communities.
He said, in Kuala Lumpur alone, there are 137 volunteers involved.
"We thank them for their involvement," he said.
In a separate development, Noor Hisham said the country's Covid-19 testing capacity is now at 11,546 tests a day. - Mkini
