Bersatu supreme council called for meeting tonight, again without Dr M

Malaysiakini

The Bersatu supreme council is expected to convene tonight for a meeting in Kuala Lumpur.
This would be the first event that Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin is known to attend after he finishes a 14-day quarantine for being in close contact with a Covid-19 patient last month.
However, based on an invitation notice sent to members of the council, the meeting scheduled at 8.30pm has again left out party chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad and deputy president Mukhriz Mahathir from the list of those invited.
The notice, sighted by Malaysiakini, was signed by Bersatu organising secretary Suhaimi Yahya (photo) and listed Muhyiddin as the acting chairperson.
"A supreme council meeting will be held on Thursday June 4, 2020 at 8.30pm," said the notice, which also stated the venue to be a building at Jalan Susur Damansara.
"Agenda for the meeting will follow," it added.
Malaysiakini has contacted Suhaimi for comment, while two Bersatu supreme council members A Kadir Jasin and Akhramsyah Sanusi have confirmed with Malaysiakini that there is a meeting called tonight.
This would be the second time the party's supreme council was called for a meeting without Mahathir and Mukhriz.
The first was last month, when Suhaimi sent out a notice for a meeting on May 11.
However, it was cancelled a day before it was supposed to take place after reports came out that it was a plot against Mahathir and Mukhriz.
For the record, Suhaimi, who is known to be aligned to the Muhyiddin camp, was sacked by Mahathir from his post as the party’s organising secretary.
This came after Suhaimi issued letters sacking five Bersatu MPs including Mahathir and Mukhriz for sitting with the opposition during the May 18 Parliament sitting.
Mahathir had since rejected Suhaimi's letter, saying that the organising secretary has no power to make such decisions.
