Bersatu supreme council meeting tonight invalid, claims Kadir Jasin

Malaysiakini

A Bersatu supreme council member has rejected an invitation to attend its meeting tonight, saying that only the party chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad can call for the council to convene.
A Kadir Jasin (above), who is known to be aligned to Mahathir, also claims that the meeting called by party president Muhyiddin Yassin would see an attempt to legitimise all sackings that were done without the council's approval beforehand.
"I strongly object to the calling of this supreme council meeting through a notice dated June 2, 2020 and the convening of the council on June 4, 2020 as it does not follow Bersatu constitution and rules.
"The party president also cannot be calling for this meeting as in my view, the party chairperson (Mahathir) is still a legitimate member of this party and is its chair."
Kadir said these in a letter he sent to Bersatu organising secretary Suhaimi Yahya on Wednesday, in reply to the meeting invitation that the latter sent out a day earlier.
For the record, Suhaimi is known to be aligned with Muhyiddin. However, the Mahathir camp does not recognise Suhaimi and had sacked him from the post last week.
On the other hand, Muhyiddin claims he is the legitimate acting chairperson for Bersatu, instead of Mahathir.
It was reported that Suhaimi had sent out the meeting invitation to selected members of the council only.
Among those reportedly left out were Mahathir and disputed Bersatu deputy president Mukhriz Mahathir.
Another supreme council member, Akhramsyah Sanusi meanwhile had been sacked from the council by Muhyiddin in a letter dated June 2.
Violation of ROS’ prohibition
Meanwhile, Kadir pointed out that the call for meeting violates the Registrar of Society's prohibition against any activities.
"This scheduled meeting is invalid as it violates ROS' media statement dated March 16, 2020 that bans all forms of meetings by political parties until June 30."
The authority had issued the directive in March as part of the government's measures to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
Kadir also alleged that Muhyiddin was afraid to conduct the meeting at the party’s headquarters, which is located at the Yayasan Selangor building in Petaling Jaya.
"They do not even have the guts to hold the meeting at the party office. They are scared to meet Tun (Mahathir)," he said.
"They are trying to legitimise all the sackings which had been done without referring to the council beforehand," Kadir added. - Mkini
