Gov't approves resumption of face-to-face job interviews

Malaysiakini

CORONAVIRUS | The government has agreed in principle to allow ministries, agencies and the private sector to resume conducting face-to-face job interviews, Defence Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said today.
"Regarding the hiring process for government employees, a special meeting has approved the appeal made by a number of ministries and agencies to carry out job interviews in person," he said in a briefing from Putrajaya.
"The Public Services Commission will prepare an SOP concerning the face-to-face hiring process and that SOP will be reviewed by the Health Ministry, National Security Council and Prime Minister's Office for approval.
"Once the SOP has been approved it will be used as a reference for all ministries and agencies in the interview process," added the senior minister in charge of security cluster.
Prior to this, Ismail had said during the conditional movement control order (MCO) which ended on June 9 that the government encouraged employers to conduct job interviews online.
On a separate matter, Ismail said that police had arrested 61 people for breaching recovery MCO rules yesterday, nine of whom were remanded and 52 issued compound fines.
Of the 61, 44 were detained in connection with pubs and nightclub activities, four were at massage or reflexology centres, and 13 were held for violating social distance protocols.
Ismail added that the 61 was significantly more than on Monday when 23 individuals were arrested, three were remanded and 20 were issued compound fines.
Ismail - who is no longer giving daily briefings but holding press conferences on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays - reminded Malaysians that seminars, conferences, workshops and courses allowed to be held, but in compliance with recovery MCO SOPs.
He said that from May 1 until last night, some 850 undocumented migrants and 153 middlemen had been arrested for trying to cross borders, particularly along rat trails.
The minister added that another 12 suspected smugglers and 18 ships have also been seized during that time. - Mkini
