Johor Pakatan Harapan has deemed Johor Menteri Besar Hasni Mohammad’s call for collaboration between the state government and opposition blocks “dishonest” and insincere.
In a statement today, they claimed that the menteri besar had snubbed their previous attempts to hold a discussion between them.
“If Hasni was truly serious in wanting to work with the opposition to administer the state, he would have at least replied to messages from opposition leader Aminolhuda Hassan, who has tried to discuss public interest issues with him several times.
“Official statements from Harapan have also openly invited Hasni to meet and discuss state-related issues, but he has never bothered with the invitation.
“Therefore, we find it dishonest that Hasni is now suddenly reaching out and inviting all Johor political leaders to stop fighting and work together to develop the state,” they added.
The statement was signed by Aminolhuda - who is also the state Amanah chief, Johor PKR chief Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh and Johor DAP chief Liew Chin Tong.
Hasni (photo) had made the call yesterday after Johor ruler Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar threatened to dissolve the legislative assembly and call a snap election if the state was faced with a second power struggle.
While the Johor Constitution allows the sultan to do so, opposition MP Hassan Karim has noted that the ruler is supposed to act on the advice of the state government rather than make unilateral actions.
The sultan’s decree came amidst speculation that Johor Harapan is on the cusp of a counter-coup.
In March, the Johor Harapan government fell to Perikatan Nasional after Bersatu quit the coalition and Pemanis assemblyperson Dr Chong Fatt Full defected to PN.
PN presently has a razor-thin one-seat majority in the Johor state legislative assembly. - Mkini
