More than 6,600 daycare centres will be allowed to reopen immediately with the issuance of new guidelines.
Defence Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob (above) said at present only 304 daycare centres nationwide have reopened under the existing guidelines, which has made it difficult for parents to return to work.
He said the new standard operating procedure (SOP) for nurseries will be uploaded on the Women and Family Community Development Ministry and Social Welfare Department's respective websites.
As of the time of writing, the new guidelines have yet to be published.
Meanwhile, for kindergartens, the Education Ministry will be streamlining guidelines before they are allowed to reopen. This is as kindergartens fall under the purview of several ministries.
On other matters, Ismail said that the government will be discussing new guidelines for houses of worship, hairdressers, and pasar malam (night market) activities this Saturday.
This includes whether congregational prayers at mosques can be flexible depending on the size of the building.
