Report lodged over online 'death threat' against Anwar

A police report has been filed after an apparent death threat was made against PKR President Anwar Ibrahim on social media.

Lodged by Federal Territories PKR Youth chief P Prabakaran at the Sentul police station today, the report urged for an investigation to be conducted on the person behind the threat.

The report, sighted by Malaysiakini, referred to a comment made during Anwar’s Facebook Live session broadcast yesterday.

“The individual made a criminal threat against Anwar where the individual posted the following sentence ‘Kalau ibrahim ada. Dengan ibrahim aku bunuh’ during the live session.

“I urge the police to conduct a thorough investigation into the owner of the Facebook page that made the open criminal threat against Anwar,” read the Batu MP’s report.

Anwar has held several live broadcasts through his official Facebook page during the movement control order to share his views on current issues and political developments in the country.

In yesterday afternoon’s session, he had urged the Perikatan Nasional government to raise the penalties for drink-driving by amending the Road Transport Act 1987.

He also raised concerns about rising unemployment and advised Malaysians to take heed of the anti-racism riots in the US that were sparked by the death of African-American George Floyd.
