UUM closed after student tests positive for Covid-19

COVID-19 | Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) has stopped all classes and activities after a student tested positive for Covid-19.

According to Berita Harian, the student returned from Sabah on Sept 20, before the mandatory screening of arrivals from the territory was imposed.

Vice-chancellor Aghmad Bashawir Abdul Ghani said the student returned to campus recently to undergo Reserve Officers Training Unit (Palapes) training.

He said there were only a small number of participants involved in the training.

Another university which had stopped all activities was Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA), which announced yesterday that one of its staff had tested positive for Covid-19.

The latest wave of Covid-19 outbreak has wreaked havoc for students who were supposed to begin orientation week or resume studies on campus in public universities on Oct 3.

Universities have been off-limits since March, due to lockdown measures, while schools reopened in July.

For now, the government policy is to shut down schools only in the event of confirmed Covid-19 cases. - Mkini
