KUALA LUMPUR: The High Court was told today that no third parties had come forward to claim seized assets from Najib Razak, other individuals and companies after May 9, 2018.

Deputy public prosecutor Faten Hadni Khairuddin said this to reporters after the case was mentioned today.

“Up until 11am, no interested parties had appeared before this court to stake their claims on the seized items,” she said.

Faten said a federal gazette was issued on Oct 26, inviting interested third parties to stake their claims.

She added High Court judge Mohamed Zaini Mazlan will hear the prosecution’s application to forfeit the seized items on March 26, 2021.

“The court instructed us to send in our submissions before Jan 15, 2021 and gave the respondents until Feb 8 to provide a reply to us,” Faten said.

The government is seeking to forfeit hundreds of items seized from the former prime minister, 15 individuals and companies in 2018.

The items seized included luxury handbags, cash in different currencies, watches, shoes and 27 vehicles.

Among the individuals named in the forfeiture application are his wife Rosmah Mansor, her son Riza Aziz, Najib’s children (Nor Ashman and Nooryana Najwa), former Goldman Sachs banker Roger Ng and fugitive financier Low Taek Jho’s mother, Goh Gaik Ewe.

The seized items also included a sum of RM18 million in various bank accounts, and a bungalow belonging to Low’s family in Tanjung Bungah, Penang. - FMT
