Once hotspot Kuching now Covid-19 green zone

COVID-19 | The district of Kuching in Sarawak, once a Covid-19 hotspot, has now become a green zone after zero cases were reported in 14 days.

This was announced by the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee today.

Serian is the only district left in Sarawak with Covid-19 cases, following two infections reported there in the past two weeks.

The state recorded zero new cases today.

Sarawak is currently the only state imposing strict border controls.

Interstate travel restrictions in the peninsula were lifted on Dec 7 while arrivals in Sabah no longer need to quarantine. They only have to show they tested negative during screening three days before arrival.

In contrast, those entering Sarawak must undergo 10 days of quarantine in a designated centre and get tested on the second and eighth day of quarantine.

Only those who test negative on the eighth day can leave the quarantine centre on the 10th day.

However, they must observe home quarantine and wear a surveillance wristband.

Non-Sarawakians must take a Covid-19 test three days prior to visiting the state and can only enter if the result is negative. They must also get tested again upon entry, observe 14-day quarantine and wear a surveillance wristband.

Sarawak imposed strict border controls after cases spiked in the state in July and August.

Infections in Kuching reduced following the move but spiked again in October.

The state responded by tightening border controls, shutting down schools, colleges, entertainment and reflexology centres while an enhanced movement control order was imposed on a village. - Mkini
