Perak DAP calls out three assemblymen for criticising party during political impasse

IPOH: Perak DAP has taken to task three of its state assemblymen for criticising its party leadership during the state political impasse.

In a joint statement issued by 17 of its state representatives on their Facebook page, they called out Leong Cheok Keng (Malim Nawar), Leow Thye Yih (Pokok Assam) and Terence Naidu (Pasir Bedamar) for issuing statements without going through the proper channels.

They said all three have violated party discipline for the statements they made, which had hurt its image.

"We regret that some people have taken the opportunity to criticise the party leadership, when we were working hard to resolve the political crisis. They claim to represent the party, but what they did proved otherwise and to achieve their own political goals," they said.

During the political turmoil last week, state DAP chairman Nga Kor Ming had remarked that they were willing to work with Umno to form the state government, drawing criticisms from several party members.

They also said during the negotiation with Umno to form the state government, they wanted to adhere to the principles of multiracialism, upholding integrity and good governance.

"It is our responsibility to our voters," they said, adding that they faced greater pressure than the other two parties in Pakatan Harapan.

Among those who jointly issued the statement included Beruas MP Datuk Ngeh Koo Ham, Ipoh Timur MP Wong Kah Woh, Batu Gajah MP V. Sivakumar, Tebing Tinggi assemblyman Abdul Aziz Bari, Sungkai assemblyman A. Sivanesan, Pasir Pinji assemblyman Howard Lee and senator Nga Hock Cheh. - Star
