Prominent academician Ungku Aziz Ungku Abdul Hamid passed away today, at the age of 98.
He is reported to have died from old age at the Prince Court Hospital.
Astro Awani quoted his widow Rohayah Ahmad Bahiran as saying that his remains will be laid to rest in Taman Tun Dr Ismail tonight.
Ungku Abdul Aziz was behind the creation of Tabung Haji and National Cooperative Organisation of Malaysia (Angkasa).
He quit Angkasa in 2009 after 35 years at the helm over a long delay in a probe into an alleged financial irregularity.
A former Universiti Malaya vice-chancellor, Ungku Abdul Aziz was also known for saying that there was no social contract between Malaysia's diverse ethnic communities.
He was appointed a royal professor in 1978.
He is also father to former Bank Negara governor Zeti Akhtar Aziz. - Mkini
