Climbing at Mt Kinabalu restarts on Friday (March 5) under CMCO

KOTA KINABALU: Climbing resumed at Mount Kinabalu on Friday (March 5) with 35 climbers making their ascent to the peak for the first time since its closure under the movement control order (MCO) in January.

Kinabalu Park manager Yassin Miki said the climbers were accompanied by 10 mountain guides, and added that they began the overnight ascent to the summit after undergoing the required Covid-19 test.

Yassin added that only 100 people would be allowed to climb Mount Kinabalu every day and anticipated that many who could not make the climb during the MCO would fix new dates to go up the mountain.

Under the current conditional movement control order that begins on Friday, inter-district travel has been limited under separate zones.

Kinabalu Park comes under the Ranau district, which is part of the inter-district travel allowed under the zone.

People from Kota Kinabalu, Kota Belud, Ranau, Tuaran, Penampang, Putatan and Papar will be able to travel within the zone. - Star
