IPOH: Five individuals who took part in a funeral procession in Kuala Lumpur, where the hearse bore the logo of a secret society, were arrested after the final rites, says Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin.
The Home Minister clarified that this, however, did not mean police did not perform their duties because arresting the five during the funeral procession would not have been appropriate.
Action was taken immediately afterward, he added.
“If we had taken action during the procession, then the public would say that the police are cruel, ” he told a press conference here on Friday (March 19).
A video that went viral on social media showed a funeral procession with the hearse bearing the logo of the "36" secret society.
“Whatever we do, there are things that some people may like, and some may not.
“Those who post on social media are usually the ones who oppose the government, and people who don’t say anything are the ones who like what we do, ” he added.
Hamzah said because of such posts, the authorities were cautious when taking action.
“We have to see if it is appropriate before acting," he said. - Star
