SEREMBAN: Police have seized 264 Bitcoin mining machines worth about RM530,000 in three raids in Seremban 3 near here.
Seremban OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Said Ibrahim said the seizure was the biggest haul by police in the state this year.
“We seized 82 machines at the first premises followed by 102 at the second and 80 at the third, ” he said on Friday (March 19).
A 27-year-old man was detained during the raids, conducted jointly with Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), on Thursday (March 18) evening, he added.
The cases were being probed under Sections 379 and 427 of the Penal Code for electricity theft and causing mischief to TNB properties.
ACP Mohd Said added that TNB would also conduct its own investigation under Section 37(3) of the Electricity Supply Act for power theft and meter tampering, as it had lost an estimated RM105,000 a month from the three Bitcoin mining operations.
“We are investigating if the same syndicate is behind the operations at all three shoplots. We believe they have been running for six to seven months, ” he said. - Star
