IPOH: The Malaysian Border Security Agency (Aksem) will now be under the responsibility of the police following Cabinet approval, says Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin (pic).
The Home Minister said the agency would now be under the command of the Inspector-General of Police.
“Prior to this, personnel were picked from various relevant enforcement agencies, and orders failed to reach all the way to the end of the chain of command.
“Thus the police will now strategise and reorganise the agency accordingly, ” he told a press conference after giving a talk on the importance of vaccination to agencies under his ministry at the state secretariat building here on Friday (March 19).
Hamzah added that where applicable, technology would be used to monitor the borders.
He said for areas that require manpower, police will deploy the General Operations Force (GOF).
“Entry points at the borders including that in Sabah and Sarawak will also be minimised and identified.
“So if anyone enters through unverified entry points, that will be considered as trespassing, ” he added. - FMT
