Not impossible for Umno-Harapan pact to win GE15: Ku Li

It is not impossible for Umno to form a political pact with Pakatan Harapan for the next general election, said Umno advisory board chairperson Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah.

In an interview with The Malaysian Insight broadcasted on Facebook today, the eleventh-term Gua Musang MP said such a pact can reclaim Putrajaya if God wants it to win.

"How do I know (if Umno-Harapan pact) can win? Only God will know. (However) nothing is impossible if God wants us to win.

"But there are many things that must be included onto the 'menu' when we face the general election, including the manifesto, service and plans as well as the aspiration of the people in the next five years.

"This will depend on how we are going to present our strategies and proposals that match the needs of the young and the old, female and male voters," he added.

This should be considered so that questions on the legitimacy of the government would not arise in the future as seen today, said Tengku Razaleigh, who is popularly known as Ku Li.

"I myself have raised the question (of government's legitimacy) not because I am against the prime minister. He said he was sworn in before the Yang di-Pertuan Agong (as the premier). Of course, this is legitimate as it was done according to the Federal Constitution.

"However, the question is if he still commands the (majority) support in Dewan Rakyat. He should at least garner the support of 112 MPs out of 222," he added.

Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin

The veteran politician said it is important to ascertain if Muhyiddin is still in control of the Dewan Rakyat as enshrined in the Constitution.

"He has to obtain the support of a minimum of 112 MPs. If he doesn't have 112 votes, out you go.

“Whoever holds the position (of prime minister) has to be brave to face the Dewan Rakyat and general election, to determine if he still has the support of the rakyat," he added.

Tengku Razaleigh said the people are of the view that Umno leaders charged in court should not be fielded as candidates in the upcoming polls.

"I can't tell you what we (Umno) need to improve. I heard from Umno members that the people opined that the line-up of leaders (candidates) offered by us should not be the individuals involved in court cases," he said.

PKR president Anwar Ibrahim has reportedly not ruled out the possibility of Harapan working together with Umno in the next general election after the Malay-based party decided not to work with Perikatan Nasional. - Mkini
