PETALING JAYA: Former deputy health minister Dr Lee Boon Chye says Parliament can reconvene in May after all MPs are vaccinated.
He made the suggestion based on all 220 MPs being vaccinated by mid-April and in compliance with the required 28-day notice period for a Parliament sitting.
“We should be ready by May to have the first sitting for this year. After all if spas and beauty parlours are now allowed to open under CMCO, why not Parliament,” he told FMT, adding that there were no parliament clusters despite weeks of sitting last year.
Earlier today, Putrajaya announced the movement control order (MCO) in Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Johor and Penang will be lifted and replaced with the conditional MCO from March 5.
The decision to lift the MCO followed data suggesting a downward trend in Covid-19 infection rate, senior minister for security Ismail Sabri Yaakob said.
He added that most economic sectors including service sectors and businesses offering beauty and health services, such as manicures, pedicures and facials, would also be allowed to reopen.
Restaurants will be allowed to open until 12am, unless stated otherwise by local councils.
The Gopeng MP called for Dewan Rakyat speaker Azhar Harun to start planning for the sitting as the Parliament secretary is required to give 28 days notice to MPs, prior to any sitting.
Lee said the transparent shields around each MP in the Dewan Rakyat should remain, aside from all existing SOPs, to ensure there is no spread of Covid-19. - FMT
