KOTA KINABALU: Pakatan Harapan (PH) should reject any cooperation with former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and his allies ahead of the 15th General Election (GE15).
Sabah Angkatan Muda Keadilan (AMK) Information chief Razeef Rakimin said it was not a personal attack against the chairman of Parti Pejuang Tanah Airku (Pejuang), but it was to avoid PH from being rejected by the people.
He said PH had given many opportunities to Dr Mahathir in the last general elections, including accepting the Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) under his leadership at the time and appointing him as PH's candidate for Prime Minister.
"Dr Mahathir just happened to be in the right place and time when there were waves of people's rejection against the Barisan Nasional (BN) government at that time.
"We have given the most seats to his party but only managed to win 13 of the 52 parliamentary seats contested. Therefore, there is no question of him as a factor in PH's victory.
"During his tenure as the Prime Minister, he had also rejected many initiatives of several ministries, including refusing to implement some of the promises enshrined in the PH manifesto.
"What is very impressive to this day is when he stated the manifesto is not scriptural and there is no need to fulfill it," he said in a statement here.
Razeef said the matter angered the people which was eventually translated through the by-election (PRK) when Dr Mahathir's party at the time, Bersatu, lost in the Semenyih State Assembly (DUN) and Tanjung Piai Parliamentary by-elections.
He added that in order to strengthen Bersatu's position, Dr Mahathir went against his principles by attracting 13 UMNO MPs to join BERSATU which eventually became traitors to PH.
"The people's anger escalated when he broke his promise in transfering power to Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as stipulated in the PH Consensus Agreement signed by all party leaders in PH.
"Sheraton Move was also his idea for Muslim Malays form a government without the DAP, PKR and AMANAH thereby canceling the PH for him to stay in power. This movement began openly since the Maruah Melayu congress.
"Apart from hastily resigning as the prime minister without discussing it with the PH Presidential Council, he had also failed several times to regain the people's mandate because he did not agree with Anwar being nominated as the prime minister," he said.
Razeef said Dr Mahathir also used the 'divide and order' tactic when proposing Parti Warisan Sabah (WARISAN) president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal as the prime ministerial candidate which eventually caused a split between the PH component parties.
He added that such a scenario had led to Warisan failing to regain the people's mandate and collapsed in Sabah.
"So I advise not only PKR, but also friends from DAP and AMANAH to reject cooperation with Dr Mahathir which will clearly cause the people to reject PH in the next GE-15.
"Going into the same snake hole twice only shows PH is still immature to lead the country. I believe if PH still wants to be with Dr Mahathir, the people will punish PH through the ballot box," he said. - NST
