RM700 for B40 Covid-19 patients isolating at home

The payment is subject to confirmation by a medical officer, says Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin.

PETALING JAYA: Covid-19 patients from the B40 group who are isolating at home will receive RM50 a day for a span of two weeks or a total of RM700.

Speaking in a televised address, Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin said this was subject to confirmation by a medical officer.

He announced the initiative as part of the mySalam scheme, which he said has benefitted some 70,000 people from the B40 group with RM40 million disbursed so far.

Muhyiddin also announced that the government would allocate RM1.2 billion in cash aid for some 2.4 million people aged between 21 and 60 who have lost their incomes.

This includes a one-off RM500 payout for those in the B40 group and RM500 payout for Bantuan Prihatin Rakyat recipients who earn less than RM1,000 a month.

The recipients of this aid do not need to apply for the relief, and the payments will be made from June.

Muhyiddin also said the Insolvency Department would work with banks so that those who have gone bankrupt can open online bank accounts to receive government aid.

“To empower female entrepreneurs, the government will allocate RM30 million to help them migrate to the online marketplace.”

He said Bank Simpanan Nasional would also introduce a RM50 million microcredit scheme for female entrepreneurs.

Meanwhile, disabled workers who earn RM1,500 and below will now qualify for disabled worker’s allowance, while disabled entrepreneurs can register or renew their business registration for free.

Muhyiddin also announced some over RM300 million in allocations for the improvement of several programmes for the youth. - FMT
