Student duo charged for insulting teacher

Two school leavers caught on camera riding a motorcycle while wearing uniforms scribbled with obscenities against a teacher were charged today at the Kota Bharu Magistrates Court.

The duo pleaded guilty before Magistrate Mohd Izuddin Mohd Shukri to a charge under Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955 for insulting behavior administered with the intention of disturbing the peace or provoking someone else.

Deputy Public Prosecutor P S Gayathri appeared for the prosecution while the two accused, both aged 17, were represented by a Legal Aid Foundation lawyer Nik Nazriani Nik Abd Rahman.

According to the charge sheet, the two teenagers were accused of wearing a shirt with a word intended as an insult or an obscenity to disturb public peace.

They were accused of committing the offence at the Chempaka roundabout, Kota Bharu, at approximately 4pm on March 3, the final day of their SPM examinations.

Izuddin set bail at RM100 each with one surety.

The case has been set for a re-mention on June 22 while waiting for the completion of the duo's behavioural report.

A photograph of the duo joyriding around town on a motorcycle went viral earlier this month, with netizens zooming in on the offensive message against a teacher. - Mkini
