PAS vice-president Mohd Amar Abdullah said the opposition practised a double standard when it came to political defections.
He said the opposition had no trouble with government MPs defecting, but were upset when it was the other way around.
"The problem with the opposition, if their people go and support the government, they get angry.
"But if someone from the government jumps to support them (the opposition), that's okay. That's the problem with them," Amar (above) told reporters in Kota Bharu, Kelantan today.
He said this when asked to comment on Julau MP Larry Sng and Tebrau MP Steven Choong leaving PKR to support the Perikatan Nasional government on Sunday.
The move was ostensibly to provide PN with enough support to have a simple majority in the Dewan Rakyat as two Umno MPs withdrew their support in January.
However, the situation is fluid as other Umno lawmakers - especially those aligned to party president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi - have been critical of PN and could withdraw their support.
Amar said Choong and Sng's move to support PN showed that they had become confident in Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin's leadership.
"We hope there will be more (who jump over to support PN), not just these two," he said.
Choong and Sng had cited the interest of their constituents in their decision to support PN.
Choong cited various problems including floods, illegal waste dumping, illegal money lending, affordable housing, local council issues, river pollution and migrant workers all of which could be resolved with federal access.
Meanwhile, Sng said he had been unable to serve his constituents because of a lack of development funds. - Mkini
