PETALING JAYA: A group of men who cornered and assaulted a policeman who was carrying out surveillance at an entertainment centre has been arrested in a special operations by Bukit Aman’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
In a statement today, Bukit Aman CID chief Huzir Mohamed said “Op Cantas Sinecura” came after a viral video of the incident, showing a group of men from the 18 Dato’ Suresh Gang rioting and injuring a victim at an entertainment centre in Brickfields, Kuala Lumpur.
The police officer there was cornered, insulted and beaten up by the gang members.
In a separate incident, Bukit Aman said another group of men from the 21 Sunder Gang, armed with knives, wooden sticks and metal rods, brutally attacked a victim in Kapar, Selangor on Jan 21, 2020.
“PDRM has also identified a few video clips showing the group’s violent and aggressive behaviour. Ten police reports have been lodged involving the group.”
The statement said the special operation two days ago saw 22 men from both gangs being arrested. The gangs have been active around Puchong, Serdang, Kapar and Klang in Selangor.
Of the 22, 12 were from the 18 Dato’ Suresh Gang, and 10 from the 21 Sunder Gang.
The men are aged between 35 and 48.
Police found that both groups were involved in gang activities and other criminal activities such as rioting, intimidation and causing injury.
All suspects had anywhere between one to nine criminal cases on their records, involving crimes such as public fights, robbery, drugs and others.
Investigations will be carried out under the Societies Act 1966, Section 324 of the Penal Code and the Prevention of Crime Act 1959. - FMT
