KULAI: Police here have opened an investigation into an incident where a Year One pupil was injured after being slapped by a teacher at a religious school here.
Kulai police chief Superintendent Tok Beng Yeow said on a senior police officer with the rank of Assistant Superintendent received information regarding the incident through social media on April 8.
"According to the information received, a seven-year-old student was injured in his mouth after he was slapped by a teacher at a religious school.
"Checks showed that no report had been lodged on the incident so a report was lodged by the police as first information report for further investigations," said Tok in a statement.
He said an investigation paper has been opened to find the cause of the incident and to locate witnesses.
"We will also contact the Kulai District Education Office and Johor Education Department to get more details. Anyone with information on the incident can directly contact the investigating officer Inspector Izan Zaki at 014-5296880," said Tok.
He said the case is being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code. - NST
