Police have recorded statements from a teacher and his student who accused the former of making jokes about rape.
Sungai Buloh district police chief Shafa’aton Abu Bakar said their statements were recorded yesterday and the case is being investigated under the Child Act.
“Other witnesses will also be summoned to facilitate investigations,” he told Malaysiakini.
On Saturday, Ain Husniza Saiful Nizam, 17, alleged that inappropriate remarks were made while students were discussing sexual harassment during a physical and health education class at her school in the Kuala Selangor district.
"It was going good you know, we were talking about sexual harassment, how to take care of yourself, your body rights.
"He was making a couple of jokes and it seemed normal at first, but slowly the jokes were getting weird and more lucah (lewd).
"Then we were talking about how there are laws protecting minors from sexual abuse and harassment, and then he said 'If you want to rape someone, don't rape those under 18, rape those above 18'," she claimed on social media.
Her father, Saiful Nizam Abdul Wahab, subsequently filed a police report.
Meanwhile, PKR leader Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail praised Ain for her courage to expose the alleged incident.
On the same note, she expressed concern, especially with regard to the student receiving an alleged rape threat from one of her schoolmates.
Given that Ain is a minor, the Pandan MP said she should be accorded protection under the Witness Protection Act 2009.
“This (alleged) incident reinforces the need to allow Parliament to sit so that the Sexual Harassment Bill can be tabled and become the law to be referred to for such cases in future,” she added in a statement this afternoon.
Yesterday, Ain claimed that she received a rape threat from a schoolmate who was upset with her for exposing the alleged incident with the teacher.
Her father said he would lodge a separate report on the matter. - Mkini
