Covid-19: Total of eight cases detected in four KK schools

KOTA KINABALU: Four schools here have reported a total of eight positive Covid-19 cases.

The schools involved were SJK (C) Shan Tao Kota Kinabalu (three cases) and Sekolah Menengah Shan Tao (three) in Likas here.

Two other schools recorded one case each, namely SJK(C) Chung Hwa Kota Kinabalu and SJK(C) Chung Hwa Likas, said state Covid- 19 spokesman Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun (pic).

A fifth school, he said, involved a teacher at SRK Lok Yuk in Likas who tested positive in February.

He was debunking false information on social media that Covid-19 had been detected in nine schools in the city.

There were no cases detected in SJK (C) Yue Min Penampang, Yue Min Kindergarten Penampang, St James Likas dan Menggatal Lok Yuk Kindergarten, as claimed in the viral message.

On Thursday, Year three pupils from Chung Hwa Kota Kinabalu had gone for a swab test at the screening centre in Likas here, with others due for similar tests over the next few days.

Sabah recorded a total of 160 new cases on Thursday and three deaths.

A new cluster with 14 cases was detected among workers and their families at a palm oil factory in the Kinabatangan district.

The index case is believed to have been infected during a visit to his family in the neighbouring Lahad Datu district.

Masidi also said that 24 people were issued summons for failing to observe SOP in the state. - Star
