The education sector has seen 4,868 people infected with Covid-19 between Jan 1 and April 20.
Health Minister Dr Adham Baba said 1,420 cases involved institutions operated by the Education Ministry while 1,870 cases involved the higher education sector.
Another 1,578 cases involved other educational institutes.
As a whole, the 83 clusters classified involved the education sector, of which 49 are still active.
Meanwhile, Adham reminded everyone in the education sector to ensure that they follow Covid-19 protocols, including wearing masks at all times, physical distancing, and maintaining proper hygiene.
The management of such institutions are also required to screen for Covid-19 symptoms and report outbreaks to the district health department, said Adham.
He said whether a school needs to be closed or not will depend on the district health department's risk assessment.
Schooling has been suspended in seven districts in Kelantan from April 18 to 24.
In the Klang Valley, the Petaling Health Department ordered 19 schools to be closed. - Mkini
