The employer accused of beating his bodyguards and forcing them to stop fasting at gunpoint during the Ramadan month has issued an apology.
The 43-year-old made the apology while in handcuffs, with policemen holding him on either side.
"If what I said to my bodyguards offended anyone, I think I should apologise to all Muslims in the country, to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and my two former bodyguards.
"However, I did not intend to insult anyone with what I said," he said in Mandarin at the Dang Wangi district police headquarters in the capital today.
A video of him making the apology was published by The Star.
After issuing his apology, the employer - who is under remand - was whisked away in a police car.
The employer is one of four people arrested over the alleged assault.
Police said the employer was involved in illegal money-lending and gambling activities plus allegedly had underworld ties.
The case is being investigated under Sections 324, 298, and 307 of the Penal Code as well as Section 4(1) of the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds from Illegal Activities Act 2001 and Section 5 (2) of the Moneylenders Act 1951. - Mkini
