The Indian Progressive Front (IPF) said it will not work with MIC following remarks by the latter's president SA Vigneswaran.
IPF president T Loganathan said the party will continue to maintain ties with other BN component parties - Umno and MCA.
"MIC is still our friend, but IPF cannot work with them now. That is the decision of our supreme council," he said at the IPF headquarters in Kuala Lumpur today.
Vigneswaran had insinuated that some BN-friendly parties betrayed the coalition during the last general election.
IPF, Makkal Sakti, Parti Cinta Malaysia, Malaysia Indian United Party, and Kongres Indian Muslim Malaysia are BN-friendly parties.
These parties are accorded a certain degree of recognition within BN. On April 8, BN deputy head Mohamad Hasan held a meeting with these five BN-friendly parties to discuss policies.
IPF is an MIC splinter party that was formed in 1990.
Meanwhile, Loganathan affirmed that IPF intends to field candidates during the upcoming general election.
"We have made this known to Umno. We have targeted three parliamentary seats and six state assembly seats," he said.
According to Loganathan, Umno has agreed to this in principle. - Mkini
