Just explain 'Anwar' audio clip to party, Shahidan tells Umno president

Umno supreme council member Shahidan Kassim believes there is no further need for either party president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi or PKR president Anwar Ibrahim to lodge a police report over the alleged audio recording between them.

Instead, Shahidan said Zahid has to explain the matter to the party and face the music if the recording is real.

The audio clip purportedly has Anwar congratulating Zahid's handling of the Umno general assembly. Both men claim the recording is fake.

However, Anwar said today even if the audio clip real, there was no criminal element to it.

Shahidan said the PKR president's remarks indicated that the recording was indeed authentic.

"When Anwar said 'What is the issue here?' that shows as though he was admitting the audio clip is real, so why would they (Anwar and Zahid) need to lodge police reports?" Shahidan told Malaysiakini.

Neither Anwar nor Zahid have lodged police reports over the matter although a police probe is underway.

"It is better for Zahid to just explain (the recording) to the party (Umno). No need for a police report.

"I want my beloved president to explain. If it's true, then we take disciplinary action because Umno members appear to be suspended arbitrarily at the moment," Shahidan said.

Shahidan is currently at odds with Zahid over the party's decision to sever ties with Bersatu.

The Arau MP insists that cooperating with Bersatu and Perikatan Nasional in the next election would benefit Umno. - Mkini
