KUALA LUMPUR: A 53-year-old man was killed in a fire at Block B PKNS Flat at Jalan Tun Razak, Kampung Baru here, early this morning.
Jasni Ismail's charred remains was found inside his flat.
In a statement this morning, Fire and Rescue Department spokesman said the department received a distress call at 6.39am about a fire at one of the flat units.
He said firemen from the Jalan Tun Razak station, were first to arrive at the scene with the reinforcement from Titiwangsa, Keramat and Hang Tuah stations.
Senior Officer Commander in the operations, Mohd Hafizan Hassan said of the four 600 square feet flat units, one was 70 percent destroyed while three others were 30 percent burnt.
"We managed to fully put out the fire at 7.02am. A check inside one of the units led rescuers to the deceased body," he said adding that 25 firemen were involved in the operation.
It was learnt that the victim was a bachelor, staying alone at the flat, when the fire broke out.
"The cause of the fire is still being investigated as the forensic team is at the scene of the fire (collecting evidence)," he said.
He said Jasni's body had been surrender to the police. - NST
